A Best Man’s Toast

Many of you have asked me to publish the toast I gave at my brother’s wedding this past weekend.  With that in mind, here you have it: the typed notes of the scribbled version I wrote on Friday morning at the pool.

Today is a day for keeping.
Kate, Rob is yours to keep.
Rob, Kate is yours to keep.
May you keep each other safe.
Keep making each other laugh.
May you keep each other’s secrets.
Keep each other’s dreams.
May you keep an eye out for danger.
Keep away from temptation.
Keep your temper.
Keep a stiff upper lip.
Keep your chin up.
Keep good company.
Keep each other’s company.
Keep going.
Keep putting one foot in front of the other.
Don’t keep up with anyone but each other.
Keep some things to yourselves.
Keep your promises.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
Even better than the day you make these promises
Is the day you will get to keep them.

To Rob and Kate, for keeps.

  1. Seriously?! Just when I think you’re as good (and by good, I mean GREAT), as you can be, you go and do this! Sigh. You’re my favorite author. By far.
